Private tutoring

I offer private and semi-private math classes for all ages, both in person (in the Burlington, VT area) and virtually. My approach is not standard, so please read on to understand what I offer!

My teaching approach focuses on areas students are less likely to have seen, such as combinatorics, graph theory, probability, game theory, and others, in order to create a fresh and fun environment in which students can learn mathematical reasoning. I find that this helps students who are struggling with math in the classroom, because we can leave behind their preconceived notions of what they are "bad at" and build that logical maturity in a new environment. Students are then able to apply this reasoning to their school math classrooms. This is a long term, holistic approach to building quantitative and logical reasoning skills.

Please take a look at this website to learn more about my teaching philosophy and some examples of material covered in my recent math circles, which gives you some idea of what I do with private students as well. I recommend, but don't require, folks to get a small group together, as working with fellow students often helps to facilitate learning (and is also more affordable). I give preference to folks who can meet during the school day (e.g. homeschooled students) and those who can put a small group together. If you are interested in discussing private or semi-private tutoring with me, please send me an email.
